How to make passive income as a teacher [2 min read]
Jul 31, 2025
Did you know that instead of trading your time for money, you can actually make "passive" income in a number of different ways, utilising the skills you already have as a teacher?!
If you've never heard the term before, "passive" income is basically the opposite of trading time for money. Instead of doing an hour's tuition and charging £50 for it, you create something that can be sold over and over again... and the earning potential is technically limitless!
Over the years, I've developed my business to the point where a large proportion of my income is "passive", and in Season 8 Episode 4 of the Kate Languages Podcast, I mentioned that I even made a Buy Everything sale while I was having a nap in the car on a French motorway! Don't worry, my husband was driving haha!
If this is something you need in your life (and who doesn't need a bit of extra cash, frankly?!), then here are my top 5 ways to make some passive income as a teacher:
-
Writing and selling ebooks and teaching resources - this is something I've been doing for years and can be quite lucrative! Just make sure you check with your school, and don’t sell anything that contains copyrighted material (such as screenshots from textbooks). For support on how to get your first resource online, keep an eye out for my next "Sell your first online resource in a week" challenge!
-
Hosting webinars and workshops - again, something that I did for a few years. Charge people to join the webinars/workshops, ensure you record them and then sell the recordings on your website afterwards. You can get the bundle of my CPD workshops here.
-
Create and sell online courses - think of the one thing you can teach really well and create a digital course around it. Make PowerPoints, record yourself explaining the concepts, then sell them on a website using a platform such as Kajabi.
-
Affiliate marketing - find a brand that you love using and research whether they offer affiliate links. The link above to Kajabi is my own affiliate link - use it for a 30-day trial and if you decide to sign up fully, I'll get a small percentage of what you spend!
-
Investing - the only *true* form of passive income. Find an online investment company you can trust, choose the right level of risk for you (I have chosen “low risk” investments in ethical companies only) and let your money work for you!
However, you need to remember that with most of these forms of passive income, you will need to consistently tell people about your offerings! Make sure you share links on social media and ideally, you need to build up an email list.

I will add you to my close friends list, where I share weekly business and marketing content, from my favourite podcasts to what I *never* do on social media!
