How to introduce creativity into the MFL classroom [1 min read]

May 02, 2025

This super short blog post is a summary of three great ways of introducing creativity into the classroom.

These were inspired by a previous conversation I had with Crista Hazell on the The Kate Languages podcast. You can find the full episode here - Creativity in MFL with Crista Hazell

1. Drama - Get some props, like massive inflatable microphones, clothes, funny hats, wigs, comedy glasses. Let them be silly and increase their confidence when it comes to speaking!

2. Music - Do whole music projects, not just one-off lessons. Have a song in the target language (TL - the language they are learning) that represents the theme of the lesson. Encourage students to find songs they like in the TL and share with the class.

3. Films - Create film projects - these are not just for the end of term! Use “IntoFilm” for inspiration and resources. Short films are just as good for language learning as full-length ones! Ask students to write reviews of the film (in the TL or even English).

I’d love to know if you try one or more of these ideas in the coming weeks, do get in touch and let me know!
