5 tips for running a successful education business [2-min read]
Jul 02, 2025
What are the top 5 things I wish I'd known before starting my own education business?
If you’ve been thinking of leaving teaching to set up your own business, or perhaps to start a side-hustle, then these tips are ideal for you!
- Figure out how and when you want to work - Do you love being surrounded by lots of people or would you prefer to work on your own? Do you want to work 9-5 Mon-Fri or do you want to be flexible and/or part-time
- Find your niche - Who do you want to work with? Narrow it down, find a gap in the market, figure out if this is something that people actually want/need and will pay for!
- Everything takes time and patience! - Building up a client base, social media presence, email list, etc takes time! Most “overnight successes” have been working hard for years before they get their big breakthrough.
- Don't be afraid to invest in yourself - Join networking groups, pay for coaching/ mentoring, pay for help such as a virtual assistant/ website designer/ brand photographer. Invest in digital tools - not just the free versions!
- Be prepared to do some inner work - Running a business will teach you so much about yourself and what you’re capable of! Read self-improvement books, listen to podcasts, start a journal, and maybe even have some counselling.
