5 things I learnt from my biggest failures [1 min read]

Everyone fails sometimes, but it's how we learn from these failures that turns them from disasters into positive experiences.

This blog post is a pretty personal one for me, so be gentle with your feedback haha!

In Season 8 Episode 5 of the Kate Languages Podcast, I talked about 3 of my biggest failures in my working life, but more importantly, what I learnt from them. Here are the 5 key things I’ve learnt from these failures:

  1. I learnt to trust my gut feeling about a workplace or situation. I wish I had trusted my initial feelings about a head of department who turned out to be a bully and very difficult to work with.
  2. I learnt to recognise burnout before it occurs. After my experience leaving teaching abruptly due to stress and panic attacks, I've become better at identifying signs of burnout early and taking steps to prevent it, like going for walks, doing breathwork, and meditation.
  3. I learnt to listen to my audience and do what they want. My failed attempt at re-starting evening classes taught me to listen to what my audience actually wants rather than pursuing ideas they haven't even asked for!
  4. I realised it's always worth giving something a try. Even though some experiences didn't work out, I value having tried them because it eliminated doubt and wondering "what if."
  5. I discovered that failure can lead to personal growth and finding the right path. Through my various setbacks, I found out that classroom teaching wasn't right for me, but discovered my passion for supporting teachers in other ways through my business.
